Nearly 40% of all dogs in shelters are "Pit Bulls"

While less than 6% of dogs in the US are "Pit Bulls", they account for 30-50% of all dogs in shelters. Statistics show that it takes "Pit Bulls" approximately 3 times longer to get adopted than other breeds.  Roughly 40% of "Pit Bulls" in shelters are euthanized.

Approximately 48% of shelters will put "Pit Bulls" up for adoption.  30% will place them for adoption under "special circumstances".  22% of shelters will euthanize "Pit Bulls" regardless of their disposition.

Media discrimination, widespread myths, and improper education have led to these unbalanced and unacceptable results.
